Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles III is presented, by the Prime Minister, with a bill to regulate the press. The bill has been passed by both houses of parliament, but the King has reservations. He refuses to sign the bill into law. The Prime Minister decides to introduce a bill to do away with the royal assent.

In parliament, as the bills on royal assent and press regulation are about to be voted on, Charles enters parliament and exercises his royal prerogative to dissolve parliament. The Speaker of the House reluctantly concurs that Charles is within his right. Protests and civil unrest follow. The PM calls on Prince William to act as a mediator between the King and Parliament. Prince William announces the role at a press conference. Charles sees this as an act of betrayal. However a family meeting between Charles and his sons and daughter in law convince him to abdicate in favour of William.
