Construction of Roosevelt Dam and the development of Roosevelt Lake began in 1903. The dam controls the erratic Salt River and provides water and power to the Phoenix area. The visitor center overlooks the main marina on the lake. It contains a museum with information on the history of the area, permits for boaters and campers and lists of sights to see in the area.
