Roosevelt Lake was developed in 1903 to control the erratic Salt River and provide water and power to the Phoenix area. This plaque honors the activities of the CCC in the area forty years after the lake began. The visitor's center is operated by the National Forest Service. It contains a museum, gift shop and a view of the lake. It is also the source of permits for all those camping and boating in the area so the plaque gets a lot of attention.
