Patsy, a bull terrier, was deaf from birth. She was born in Portland, OR in 1929 and brought to Alaska by her owner dentist E.H. Kaser in the 1930's. Although deaf, she was able to sense the whistle of the ships entering Juneau Harbor and would make her way to the wharf to greet arriving ships. She continued this ritual until she died on March 30, 1942.
Patsy Ann became a legend. In July 1992 a life size bronze statue of Patsy Ann, sculpted by Anna Burke Harris, was dedicated on the wharf where she would greet passengers.
