Le Moulin du Val d’Or est un témoin du passé sucrier esclavagiste du Sud aux 18ème et 19ème siècles et issu de l’habitation sucrière Val d’Or qui comme les autres habitations de l’époque a subi un démembrement après l’abolition.
Cette réhabilitation architecturale de l’unique moulin à bêtes, à étages et fonctionnel de la Caraïbe, sur le site de l’Habitation Sucrière de Val d’Or datant de 1770 et qui regroupe à la fois le moulin et les vestiges de la sucrerie attenante est une action importante pour mieux comprendre l’histoire de la Martinique.
Construit pour la 1ère fois au 17ème siècle sur les terres d’une habitation sucrière, le Moulin de Val d’Or a récemment fait l’objet d’une restauration complète, qui a notamment permis de restituer les murs, la toiture en essentes de wapa et le mécanisme de manège entrainant les rolles à broyer la canne.
