Chamber of Commerce officials held a special ceremony and groundbreaking today. A new statue was put up and the park is now officially named for him.

City officials were also there to show appreciation for Mayor Bronaugh, including current Mayor Jack Gorden. He says the park is a symbol of progress that is fueling the growth of downtown.

"It's fitting we honor Mayor Bronaugh because he was an integral part of getting this property from Mr. George Murphy. Mr. Murphy gave it for a park for the city and it's really going to be a neat place," says Mayor Gorden.

The Lufkin Landscape Task Force helped make the park beautiful. The project is located near downtown behind City Hall.

An amphitheater is also planned for the park which is open to the public.
