The Grand River flows 280 kilometers and several large steams and rivers join it before the river flows into Lake Erie, of which the Speed River is the largest. The confluence of the Speed and the Grand Rivers is located in the City of Cambridge. A large information sign provides details of why this confluence point, and why these two rivers, was and still is important. It also outlines a number of floods that have occurred in this area. A viewing platform with two benches are nearby for easy viewing of the confluence.

An excerpt from the sign:
The Confluence's Sense of Community:
The Confluence is as much a place of inspiration today as it was hundreds of years ago. Riverside footpaths, hard packed trails and grassy parkland invite open exploration. Open space and natural surroundings are easily accessible, and are right in the midst of our urban landscape.
Each of our four communities is linked to one another via the Confluence: upriver on the Grand to Blair, upriver on the Speed to Hespler, downriver on the Grand to Galt, and Preston at its heart.

About the Speed River:
The Speed River is a river that flows through Wellington County and the Region of Waterloo in southwestern Ontario, Canada. It flows south from its source near Orton, through Guelph, where it is joined by the Eramosa River, then through the towns of Hespeler and Preston, finally uniting with the Grand River in north-west Cambridge.

From its source near Wareham, Ontario, it flows south 280 kms through Grand Valley, Fergus, Elora, Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, Paris, Brantford, Caledonia, and Cayuga before emptying into the north shore of Lake Erie south of Dunnville at Port Maitland.
