The Boomtown Theater is located at 138 E.Broadway in a building constructed by Kraker Bros. & Naifeh, in either 1914 or 1917. This is a one-story brick building in downtown Drumright. The name Boomtown is appropriate since the town of Drumright literally grew up overnight when oil was discovered in 1912. Workers lived in tents until buildigs could be built.
The Drumright Community Players formed in 1970. Their first project was to put on a play to raise money to buy a piano for the local senior citizens group. The venture was so successful that the group has continued to put on live performances ever since. They present one or two plays a year. In 1995 they performed "A Musical Salute to World War II" which included 60 plus songs of that era without intermission. It was so successful that they will be performing the 23rd annual Salute this year.
The theater has one screen and 122 seats. it could not be determined whether a movie was ever shown here. The theater is thought to be the longest running live theater in a town its size. Most of the season ticket holders are from out of town as the theater has a great reputation. Additional performances are constantly having to be added to accommodate the need.
