Formerly known as the Transbay Transit Tower, the Salesforce Tower sits on what was a dilapidated area, formerly used as a ground-level entrance to the San Francisco Transbay Terminal, which was demolished in 2011.

Groundbreaking for the new construction began March 27, 2013, topped out on Thursday, April 6, 2017 and opened for occupancy on January 8, 2018.

Salesforce will lease the building's bottom 30 stories as well as the top two floors. The top nine floors of Salesforce Tower will showcase the United States’ tallest public art display, made up of 11,000 LED lights and created by world-class artist Jim Campbell.
