Asteroid
9164 Colbert is an asteroid in the main asteroid belt. It was discovered on 19 September 1987 at Anderson Mesa by Edward L. G. Bowell.
It has an orbit characterized by a semi-major axis of 3.18 AU, an eccentricity of 0.15 and an inclination of 3.7 ° with respect to the ecliptic.
The Statue
The statue of Colbert on foot is in bronze on a pedestal stone in which are inserted medallions of dark marble with an inscription on the front and on the side his arms. He is in a wig and holds under his left arm a briefcase. His right arm is along the body and his hand is resting on a roller or leaflets. Location at the origin: Reims, square Colbert (Marne).
The Personality
Jean-Baptiste Colbert born August 29, 1619 in Reims, died September 6, 1683 in Paris, is one of the main ministers of Louis XIV. Comptroller General of Finance from 1665 to 1683, Secretary of State of the King's House and Secretary of State of the Navy from 1669 to 1683.
He enters the service of the king at the death of his protector Mazarin, urges Louis XIV to disgrace his rival Nicolas Fouquet. Inspirer and promoter of an interventionist economic policy and mercantilist (later referred to as Colbertism), it promotes the development of trade and industry in France by the creation of factories and royal monopolies, state. He is preparing the Black Code, dealing with the administration of slavery in the colonies.
Colbert was obviously inspired by the writings of Barthélemy de Laffemas, economist and advisor to Henri IV: Laffemas had in particular developed the colonial trade and the textile industry, the two sectors to which Colbert devoted himself particularly, with management of public finances, to become in turn the gray eminence of the kingdom.

La Statue
La statue de Colbert en pied est en bronze sur un piédestal en pierre dans lequel sont insérés des médaillons de marbre foncé avec une inscription sur le devant et sur le côté ses armes. Il est en perruque et tient sous son bras gauche un porte-documents. Son bras droit est le long du corps et sa main repose sur un rouleau ou des feuillets. Le Personnage
Jean-Baptiste Colbert né le 29 août 1619 à Reims, mort le 6 septembre 1683 à Paris, est un des principaux ministres de Louis XIV. Contrôleur général des finances de 1665 à 1683, secrétaire d'État de la Maison du roi et secrétaire d'État de la Marine de 1669 à 1683.
Il entre au service du roi à la mort de son protecteur Mazarin, incite Louis XIV à disgracier son rival Nicolas Fouquet. Inspirateur et promoteur d'une politique économique interventionniste et mercantiliste (ultérieurement désignée sous le vocable de colbertisme), il favorise le développement du commerce et de l'industrie en France par la création de fabriques et monopoles royaux, étatiques. Il prépare le Code noir, relatif à l'administration de l'esclavage dans les colonies.
Colbert s'est à l'évidence inspiré des écrits de Barthélemy de Laffemas, économiste et conseiller d'Henri IV : Laffemas avait en particulier développé le commerce colonial et l'industrie textile, les deux secteurs auxquels Colbert s'est particulièrement consacré, avec la gestion des finances publiques, pour devenir à son tour l'éminence grise du royaume.
