 Asteroid
11379 Flaubert is an asteroid in the main asteroid belt. It was discovered by Eric Walter Elst on September 21, 1998 at ESO.
It has an orbit characterized by a half-major axis of 2.64 AU, an eccentricity of 0.22 and an inclination of 4.27 ° with respect to the ecliptic. It was named in tribute to Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880), French writer.
The Statue
1906: seeing the work at the Salon, a group of admirers decided to offer it to the city of Rouen. A Parisian committee is formed, including Dujardin-Beaumetz, Under-Secretary of State for Fine Arts, and the director of the newspaper Le Siècle, Maurice Guillemot. 1907: inaugurated Sunday, October 29 in the presence of Victor Margueritte, president of the Society of People of Letters, and Bayet, delegate of the Minister of Education. The ceremony is followed by a banquet at the Hôtel de France, and an excursion to the Flaubert pavilion at Croisset. The contractor is Enverlen. 1941: fade under the Vichy regime. 1964: replacement by a molten bronze by Rudier. 1965: the statue is moved place of Carmelites.

11379 Flaubert est un astéroïde de la ceinture principale d'astéroïdes. Il fut découvert par Eric Walter Elst le 21 septembre 1998 à l'ESO.
Il présente une orbite caractérisée par un demi-grand axe de 2,64 UA, une excentricité de 0,22 et une inclinaison de 4,27° par rapport à l'écliptique. Il fut nommé en hommage à Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880), écrivain français.

1906 : en voyant l’oeuvre au Salon, un groupe d’admirateurs décide de l’offrir à la ville de Rouen. Un comité parisien se forme, comprenant Dujardin-Beaumetz, sous-secrétaire d’Etat aux Beaux-Arts, et le directeur du journal Le Siècle, Maurice Guillemot. 1907 : inauguré le dimanche 29 octobre en présence de Victor Margueritte, président de la Société des Gens de Lettres, et de Bayet, délégué du ministre de l’Instruction publique. La cérémonie est suivie d’un banquet à l’Hôtel de France, et d’une excursion au pavillon Flaubert à Croisset. L’entrepreneur est Enverlen. 1941 : fondu sous le régime de Vichy. 1964 : remplacement par un bronze fondu par Rudier. 1965 : la statue est déplacée place des Carmes.
