Le Donjon d'Amay, dit Tour romane, tour des avoués ou tour des Waroux, est un bâtiment administratif et militaire de l'avouerie d'Amay, construit au XIIe siècle. Il relève du Patrimoine majeur de Wallonie.
Description
La tour est construite sur plan carré, en moellons de grès houiller, autrefois enduits ou badigeonnés. Les pierres d'angle et les encadrement d'ouvertures sont en calcaire mosan taillé plus finement.
La tour mesure 15,60 mètres de haut sous toiture pour 117 m² utiles. Chacun des 3 niveaux ne comportait qu'une seule pièce (cloisonnée à certaines époques). À la base de la tour, au niveau sol, se trouvait une cave qui comprenait un puits. Cette cave n'était accessible que depuis une trappe au premier étage ; elle n'avait donc aucun accès direct vers l'extérieur pour éviter les intrusions. Jadis entourée de douves, on accédait au premier étage de la tour par un pont-levis. Un escalier interpariétal assurait la communication aux étages.

Beschrijving
De toren is gebouwd op een vierkante plattegrond, van steenkoolzandsteenpuin, eenmaal bepleisterd of geborsteld. De hoekstenen en openingsframes zijn gemaakt van fijnere Mosaanse kalksteen.
De toren is 15,60 meter hoog onder het dak voor 117 m² nuttige ruimte. Elk van de 3 verdiepingen had slechts één ruimte (op bepaalde momenten gescheiden). Aan de voet van de toren, op de begane grond, bevond zich een kelder met een waterput. Deze kelder was alleen toegankelijk via een luik op de eerste verdieping, zodat er geen directe toegang tot de buitenruimte was om binnendringen te voorkomen. Eenmaal omgeven door een gracht werd de eerste verdieping van de toren ontsloten via een ophaalbrug. Een interparentale trap zorgde voor de communicatie op de verdiepingen.

Description
The tower is built on a square plan, of coal sandstone rubble, once plastered or brushed. The corner stones and opening frames are made of more finely cut Mosan limestone.
The tower is 15.60 meters high under the roof for 117 m² of useful space. Each of the 3 levels had only one room (partitioned at certain times). At the base of the tower, at ground level, was a cellar with included a well. This cellar was only accessible from a hatch on the first floor, so it had no direct access to the outside to prevent intrusion. Once surrounded by a moat, the first floor of the tower was accessed via a drawbridge. An interparietal staircase provided communication on the floors.
