Asteroid
5168 Jenner is an asteroid in the main asteroid belt. It was discovered on 6 March 1986 at Mount Palomar Observatory by Carolyn S. Shoemaker and Eugene M. Shoemaker.
It has an orbit characterized by a half-major axis of 2.34 AU, an eccentricity of 0.21 and an inclination of 23.5 ° with respect to the ecliptic.
The Statue
1857: the statue is commissioned by the Society of Industrial Sciences in Paris on January 9th. A subscription is open. 1858: the statue is exhibited in the Cour Carrée du Louvre, then in the courtyard of the Paris School of Medicine. 1864: erection authorized by decree of February 13th. 1865: inaugurated on September 11th. The pedestal is paid for by the City. 1907: the monument is moved Boulevard du Prince Albert, under the ramparts. 1942: the statue is promised to cast but escapes because made of a painted alloy.
The Personality
Edward Jenner , a member of the Royal Society (17 May 1749 - 26 January 1823), is an English scientist and doctor who studied natural sciences in his environment in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England.
He is the first physician to introduce and scientifically study the smallpox vaccine, and is considered the "father of immunology".
The first vaccinations in France took place in Boulogne-sur-Mer on June 18, 1800 on three little girls in the Rue des Pipots. In memory of this first vaccination, September 11, 1865, was inaugurated the statue of Dr. Edward Jenner, located at the foot of the fortifications of the Old City.

1857 : la statue est commandée par la société des Sciences industrielles à Paris le 9 janvier. Une souscription est ouverte. 1858 : la statue est exposée dans la Cour carrée du Louvre, puis dans la cour de l’Ecole de médecine de Paris. 1864 : érection autorisée par décret du 13 février. 1865 : inaugurée le 11 septembre. Le piédestal est payé par la Ville. 1907 : le monument est déplacé boulevard du Prince Albert, sous les remparts. 1942 : la statue est promise à la fonte mais y échappe parce que constituée d’un alliage peint.
Le Personnage
Edward Jenner, membre de la Royal Society (17 mai 1749 - 26 janvier 1823), est un scientifique et médecin anglais qui étudia les sciences naturelles dans son environnement à Berkeley, dans le Gloucestershire, en Angleterre.
Il est le premier médecin à avoir introduit et étudié de façon scientifique le vaccin contre la variole, et est considéré comme le « père de l'immunologie ».
Les premières vaccinations en France eurent lieu à Boulogne-sur-Mer le 18 juin 1800 sur trois petites filles de la rue des Pipots. En souvenir de cette première vaccination, le 11 septembre 1865, fut inaugurée la statue du docteur Edward Jenner, située au pied des fortifications de la Vieille Ville.
