From an article produced by the Director of Tourism and Community Development on gets some history of the building. The first school for African-Americans children on Chesterfield County, South Carolina. A Presbyterian minister first opened as a church school. It served male and female students as s boarding school with high school and junior college curriculums. Over time, it was absorbed into the public school system.
