"A new pub sign has divided villagers.

Liz and Mark Burgess, who run Iwade’s Woolpack, recently replaced the hanging sign which featured a pack of wool with one that has three sheep.

In the cartoon-like drawing, one is holding a microphone, another is wearing sunglasses while banging a drum and the other is playing a guitar. It’s understood it’s meant to be a take off of the Rat Pack.

Residents took to Facebook to express their views.

One wrote: “Who the hell designed the new Woolpack signs? An old pub like we have should be cherished and kept in the era it belongs, those new signs are absolutely out of character. Really lowered the tone. Looks like a burger bar.”

Another said: “I’ve got to say I went past it the other day and wasn’t that impressed, in fact I didn’t like it at all.”

But there were some comments of support such as: “I am pleased that a new sign has been erected. I think it looks nice and is refreshing.”

“The village has grown immensely and when times change you have to change with them. It’s not Emmerdale anymore I’m afraid.”

“Nice food, friendly staff and great service. Does a sign really matter?”

“I think it looks bold and refreshing and I hadn’t noticed the microphone in the first instance but a great take off of the “rat pack”. I don’t think it looks cheap. Well done the pub.”"
