Towns throughout Oklahoma have their outdoor warning devices, ready to alert residents of weather danger. Living in Tornado Alley, this is one of the most important structures in town.
This siren is mounted on a metal pole strapped to a tall wood pole alongside City Hall. The siren has a 360-degree rotation horn which blasts out a wail whenever The National Weather Service warns of a tornado on the ground in the vicinity.
On May 9, 2016, Elmore City was the recipient of an EF4 Tornado which touched down south of town, and did much damage, with the loss of two lives in nearby towns. For a look a this Elmore City tornado, check out this website: Elmore City Tornado
