J.W. Blackburn's headstone stands in Elmore City Cemetery on the west side of Elmore City, off Highway 29.

The headstone of J.W. Blackburn is a tree stump, squared off. It has an elaborate series of horizontal logs at its base. Three long logs are topped with two sets of three logs in the opposite direction. Ferns are engraved at the base of the stump. The seal and inscription are engraved on a long scroll hanging by a rope.
When you piece together the lives of people by dates, you often see the human side of these headstones. J.W. died at the age of 47. He and his wife Mollie had six children, the last born the year he died. She raised the six children herself, and outlived J.W. by 39 years.
