An der Stelle des "Alten Kirchplatzes" befand sich einst ein Hügel, auf dessen Kuppe sich bis 1861 die alte Pfarrkirche mit Friedhof erhob (im Plan blau markiert). Das Willibrord-Patruzinium deutet auf eine Kirchengründung durch die Abtei Echternach hin. Wann dies geschah ist nicht bekannt, jedoch erlangte das Kloster spätestens im Jahre 895 größeren Besitz in Plaidt. Im Jahre 1272 wird erstmals ein Pfarrer Richwin genannt.

Bei der alten Kirche handelte es sich um eine zweischiffige Anlage mit quadratischem Westturm, die in ihren Ursprüngen wahrscheinlich auf einen einfachen romanischen Rechteckbau zurückging. In den Jahren 1610 bis 1617 wurden an der Kirche größere bauliche Arbeiten durchgeführt, wozu auch der Anbau des Chores im Osten und der Vorhalle im Süden gehörten.

Der alte Ortskern von Plaidt (im Plan braun markiert) liegt etwa 200 m südlich von unserem Standort im Tal des Krufter Baches. Wie zahlreiche andere Orte in der Pellenz, war Plaidt früher durch eine Wehrmauer mit Tortürmen und Graben geschützt. Im Jahre 1783 sind große Teile des alten Dorfes durch eine Feuersbrunst zerstört worden. So auch der einst in der Niedergasse gelegene, mittelalterliche Haupthof (im Plan grün markiert).

Aus der ältesten historischen Quelle für Plaidt ist zu erfahren, dass dieser Hof "in Bloide" 894/95 von der Nonne Berctrudis dem Kloster Echternach geschenkt worden ist.

Archäologische Funde deuten darauf hin, dass die Anfänge des Ortes noch weiter - wahrscheinlich bis in das 6./ 7. Jahrhundert - zurückreichen."

[EN] "The old church in Plaidt

At the place of the "old church square" there was once a hill, on the top of which the old parish church with cemetery rose until 1861 (marked blue in the plan). The Willibrord Patruzinium indicates that the church was founded by Echternach Abbey. It is not known when this happened, but the monastery acquired larger possessions in Plaidt in 895 at the latest. In 1272 a priest is named Richwin for the first time.

The old church was a two-aisled complex with a square west tower, the origins of which probably date back to a simple Romanesque rectangular building. Between 1610 and 1617, major construction work was carried out on the church, including the extension of the choir to the east and the porch to the south.

The old centre of Plaidt (marked brown in the plan) is located about 200 m south of our site in the valley of the Krufter Bach. Like many other places in the Pellenz, Plaidt used to be protected by a defensive wall with gate towers and moat. In 1783 large parts of the old village were destroyed by a conflagration. This also applies to the medieval main courtyard (marked green on the map) which was once located in Niedergasse.

From the oldest historical source for Plaidt it can be learned that this farm "in Bloide" was donated to the monastery Echternach in 894/95 by the nun Berctrudis.

Archaeological finds indicate that the beginnings of the place go back even further - probably to the 6th/7th century".
