St James caters to a rural congregation, with many local families having been in the district for several generations. The church website link at the bottom states that the Foundation Stone was laid on 19 September 1870. Though I hunted around and couldn't find any.

Near the entry to the Church is a covered sign, with the following information, which I found interesting.

St James Delamere

Delamere formerly known as Glenburn

Between 1848 & 1860 occasional services were held at Finnis Vale,
now known as Second Valley.
In 1860 a meeting was held at Leonards Mill [which was then a
working flour mill] to discuss the building of a church,
but it seems no further action took place during the next nine years.
On the 22nd February 1869 Rev'd C W Morse held a meeting at Glenburn to
consider building a church. It was then resolved that Messrs Gerrar,
Lord, Dick, Cook, Joel Cole & Roper were elected to form a building committee.
The ground for the site was donated by James Cole.
The church was dedicated by Bishop Short on Thursday May 4th 1871.

The floor of the Church is believed to have come as ballast of a
sailing ship. Tiles on the floor of the chancel were made by Minton in England.
The fonte, believed to date back some 900 years to Saxon times, was
given to St James by Cannon Morris, the then vicar of St Peters Britford, England.
Archdeacon Morse remained in charge of the Parish of Yankalilla for
33 years [until his death in 1902]
Interesting to note that the the Rev'd Morse not only looked after
Yankalilla, Hay Flat, Myponga and Delamere, but also took services
on Kangaroo Island after crossing the sea in a row boat.
