In the town of Barry village of Graniteville, is the Rock of Ages Quarry Visitor Center, which has a rock and mineral display related to the state of Vermont, as well as monuments on display, made of various colors of stone.
Rock of Ages Quarry is located along Middle Road, near Graniteville Road. Follow the directions posted on the Rock of Ages Quarry web site.
The visitor center is close to the road and the parking is immediately behind it.
The rock display is locate inside the center, on an outer wall.
The display has two cases with sample rocks and identifying tags by them, a tall geological map of Vermont, and additional text on a sign installed to the right of the map. There are seventeen rocks in one case and fifteen rocks in the other. There are many kinds of rocks represented. Above, the map has markings on it for specific locations. To the right, the text explains the difference between granite and marble - both quarried in Vermont. Elsewhere in the center are granite monument designs made from stone in a variety of colors. Their origins aren't identified, so I am guessing that some may have come from out of state. The granite quarried at this location is a grey-granite.
You don't need to pay the admission to see the displays. The prices are given in case you take the tour to the top of the quarry.
$5.00 per adult | $4.50 per senior (62+) | $2.50 per child (6-13) | Children under 6 are admitted for free.
