The Pennsylvania State Police department was founded in 1905 and is the oldest state organized police force in the nation. The Reading Barracks is one of five members of Troop L which covers the Berks, Schuylkill and Lebanon county area. The Reading Barracks was built in 1949 as indicated by the cornerstone and remains the home of these troopers today, almost 70 years later.
