From an article in the Reading Eagle (visit link)
"These are difficult times to be a law-enforcement officers, said Capt. Kristal M. Turner-Childs, recently appointed commander of Troop L, based in Reading, but members of the Pennsylvania State Police continue to serve proudly.

"Most return home every night, but some are called to make the ultimate sacrifice," she said. "Today, we honor the 96 that have gone before us, but certainly we want to keep in prayer those who continue to do this job every day."

Turner-Childs delivered her remarks next to a granite monument upon which are etched the names of the 12 members of Troop L who have died in the line of duty over more than a century.

It was part of an annual memorial service to commemorate the formation of the Pennsylvania State Police on May 2, 1905. At 111 years old, it is oldest state law enforcement agency in the U.S."
