The town of Acme was located four miles west of Rush Springs on Highway 17, and north one mile on CR 2790. The town was established to support the Acme Cement and Plaster plant built in 1911. The town had a rooming house, a post office located in a general store , two cotton gins, blacksmith shop and brick school with gymnasium. A post office was established in the general store in April 1913.

The gypsum mines gave out in 1930, and the venture was abandoned, along with the town. Today there are just a few remaining houses and the concrete ruins of the mill. The post office closed in May of 1931. The school, boarding house and general store buildings were torn down.

Reason for Abandonment: Economic
