Combined WWI / WWII memorial lychgate at St Mary's church, Teynham.
Originally erected on April 1920 as a WWI memorial, it was restored in 2008. It is at this time that it probably officially became a combined WWI / WWII memorial.
A wooden beam is inscribed -
To the glorious dead 1914 - 1919. 1939 - 1945.
A plaque inside the memorial reads -
This Memorial Lychgate
was erected in 1920, and restored in 2008
by "GRANSDEN CONSTRUCTION Ltd"
Funds being raised by Walter Lewis, President of the
local branch of The Royal British Legion.
With grants from Cllr. Andrew Bowles (Kent County Council)
& Teynham Parish Council Donations from
Ex Service Organisations, The Whistling Postman,
The Royal Society of St George
sponsored pony ride by William Lewis & those
in memory of Frederick Kavanagh.
