The Charlton Arms Hotel in Ludford, on the south bank of the River Teme from Ludlow has a C19th front to a C18th core. Built to an L-shaped plan of two-storeys with attic in roughcast with a turnerised slate roof with a rear gable of old plain tiles, a brick end stack and stack to rear. Various sash windows, both C20th and C19th and a semi-circular oriel with 3 bowed 6/6 sashes under a lead roof overlooking the river.
The pub sign is the coat of arms of Baronet Charlton of Ludford (and Whitton). The Baronetcy was created in 1645 and became extinct in 1784.
The arms are:- Or, a lion ramp. gu. Crest a leopard's face gu. (Gold background with a red lion rampant, crest a red leopard's face.) From Burke's General Armory.
The pub sign appears to be not quite right in that the leaopard's face is gold not red.
