The memorial was amended at a later date to also commemorate the men of Stafford who fell in the Second World War.
The Imperial War Museum website has the following information.
Description
Bronze figure of soldier raising helmet aloft in right hand and holding rifle in left hand and standing on heaped debris, upon a tall square plinth. Stepped top has inscription and bronze wreaths. Plinth shaft has angle nook shafts and inscribed names to all faces.
