The information panel reads:

In the year 1819 the merchant Heyl from Meppen in Hebelermeer had a windmill built. A mill builder from Dersum was commissioned for the construction. The municipality had made the most beautiful piece of land available in the middle of the village. The location of the mill was slightly higher and had a peat depth of 3 to 3.5 meters. Thick oak stems were crushed into the ground, on which the mill was placed. Three mills were possible in the mill. The millstones had a diameter of 100 and 150 centimeters. In the first 75 years there was enough wind to grind. When the oaks in the village were getting bigger, there was not enough wind and the mill was powered by a steam engine. The sails were removed at the end of the first world war. The mill was in use until 1952 and was then demolished.

In honor of the 200th anniversary of Hebelermeer in 1988, the original mill was reconstructed on a scale of 1: 2
