On the northeast corner of S. Little and E. 2nd Street, at 218 S. Little, the armory stands just north of Memorial Park. The administrative entrance to the armory faces west. It consists of a single metal door under a stone arch, flanked by pilasters that rise above the roof line. This is a one-story stone building constructed of uncoursed White Ashlar, built by the WPA in 1936. It was designed by Bryan D. Nolen.
The office portion of the armory has a flat roof of rolled asphalt, and has two overhead doors on the south side. The drill hall has a barrel roof, with an overhead door on the south. The tall windows and raised parapets give this an Art Deco style. On the upper wall is a series of embrasures - indented vertical strips, which are repeated in triple on each pilaster.
Originally, the Cushing military were part of the 120th Medical Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division. They served in North Africa and with General Patton on Sicily as part of his 7th Army. After World War II, they served as the First Battalion 279th Infantry Regiment in Korea, and in 1968 became the First Battalion 179th Infantry Regiment. After the armory was deactivated, it was given to the City of Cushing. As far as we could tell, it is vacant at this time.
