Korean Totem Poles - Airdrie, Alberta - Roadside Attractions on Waymarking.com

The City of Airdrie is twining with Gwacheon, Korea since 1997. Gwacheon Park was officially established in July 2003.

Gwacheon Park is noted for its symbolism with sandstone stones that anchor the Korean arch; as sandstone is the foundation of Airdrie. The butterfly symbol of the City of Gwacheon is used for the central flowerbeds, the flag poles and the sitting area.

In 2007, six hand crafted totem poles were donated to the City of Airdrie by Gwacheon Korea to commemorate the 10th year of sharing a sister city relationship.

There are five flags that are seen in the park behind the totem poles, they are: Canada, Korea, Alberta, Airdrie and Gwacheon City. Attached to a rock in front of the totem poles is a plaque for the opening of the park, it is transcribed as follow;
