In 1770, 17 Scottish families landed here off of The Falmouth and started a new community on Prince Edward Island.

The monument was constructed on the 200th anniversary of the event. It reads:

1770 - 1990
Erected to commemorate the
arrival of the ship Falmouth from
Greenock, Scotland, June 8th, 1770 and
the two hundredth anniversary of the
settlement of Stanhope, Covehead,
and Brackley.
