Wetaskiwin Cemetery is also known as Old Wetaskiwin Cemetery with approximately 5,025 known interments.
The Wetaskiwin Cemetery is the older of the two local cemeteries. It was started in 1893 and is currently owned and operated by the City of Wetaskiwin.
Within the cemetery are many large trees and is fenced around the perimeter. Still standing are some of the original grave markers who were pioneers that helped in the making of Alberta.
In the NW corner of the cemetery is a Veterans Section with tradition and flush headstones honoring those who served in the Canadian Armed Services. There are about 100 veterans who are at rest in this section. The Canadian flag waves proudly near the roadside.
One note you will see the water tower from the cemetery, in fact just about all over town. The Wetaskiwin water tower was built in 1906-1907 and is the oldest functioning municipal water tower in Canada. Just like the prairie sentinels the old water towers are rapidly disappearing the our landscaped.
