The school was designed by Voelcker & Dixon, out of Wichita Falls, whose legacy includes quite a few buildings still with us in Texas, some of them on the National Register of Historic Places. This three classroom schoolhouse was the last in a succession of school buildings in Newport, several of them basic log structures. This ranch-style rock school has a sliding partition that divides two of its three classrooms, creating an auditorium for special events. The Living New Deal website (see Website) notes that the WPA funded $5,762 of the approximate $9,000 cost of construction.
