In 2008, the opportunity of roadworks was used to build three new amphibious tunnels in Aspernallee in Vienna 2nd district, Prater as part of the construction of a new gas pipeline. The project, which primarily serves to ensure the migration of the common toad (Bufo bufo) and the leap frog (Rana dalmatina) as well as in particular the common spadefoot toad (Pelobates fuscus), was carried out by the Netzwerk-Natur-Team. In 2009, the connection of the tunnels with a permanent control system was financed and carried out on site by the 'Volkmann und Rossbach' company. 156 guide profiles made of profiled, hot-dip galvanized sheet steel were used, which now lead amphibians and other small animals to the tunnels on a distance of 624 meters on both sides of the road.

At the coordinates you will find the following inscription on a small information board:
Small animal tunnel
To enable small animals to migrate safely, three small animal tunnels have been built here. Common toads migrate from the surrounding to their spawning grounds in spring. From there, old and young animals migrate back to their summer and winter quarters.
But also newts, beetles, shrews and other forest inhabitants profit from this Netzwerk Natur project.
