'De Zeven Generaties', ingehuldigd op 6 april 1994, werd gecreëerd door de Nederlands-Amerikaanse kunstenaar Frederick Franck, in opdracht van het cultuurcentrum en de stad Hasselt.
Bijzonder zinvol is de betekenis die hij eraan schenkt. Op het plaatje bij het beeld staat immers de volgende tekst neergeschreven: uit de 'Grote Wet' van de six nations Iroquois Confederation - 'In al ons overleg moeten wij ons wel bewust zijn van de gevolgen van onze beslissingen voor de volgende zeven generaties'.
Vandaar ook dat het beeld op een betekenisvolle plaats werd neergezet, namelijk tussen de speelhoek voor de kinderen aan het terras van het Theatercafé Planckeweide én het bejaardentehuis Zonnestraal.
Het originele beeld staat in de tuin van de kunstenaar in Warwick (V.S.). Een aantal replica's zijn terug te vinden in onder andere New York, Buenos Aires en Hengelo

'De Zeven Generaties', inaugurated on 6 April 1994, was created by the Dutch-American artist Frederick Franck, commissioned by the cultural center and the city of Hasselt.
The significance he gives to it is particularly useful. After all, the following text is written on the image plate: from the 'Great Law' of the six nations Iroquois Confederation - 'In all our consultations we must be aware of the consequences of our decisions for the next seven generations'.
That is why the sculpture was placed on a meaningful place, namely between the play corner for the children on the terrace of the Theatercafé Planckeweide and the retirement home Zonnestraal.
The original statue is in the garden of the artist in Warwick (USA). A number of replicas can be found in New York, Buenos Aires and Hengelo, among others
