Holy Trinity Church

The English River Anglican mission was originally established at Lac La Ronge by James Settee, later one of the first native clergymen of the diocese. He was joined at Lac La Ronge by the Reverent Robert Hunt in 1850. In 1852 the mission was moved to this site, considered more suitable for farming and accessible for schooling and worship. Construction began at once, using timbers from Lac La Ronge and fittings from England. Financial difficulties slowed progress until 1856, but the finished church was praised for its gothic lines and interior detail. It now stands as the oldest church west of the Red River.
