The Oak Creek trail is set on a former Union Pacific Railroad railbed and runs 12.8 miles, between Valparaiso and Brainard, NE. Although only an hour from both Lincoln and Omaha, these two towns total population scarcely tops a thousand people, so it's about as rural a trail as one can find. The route passes through natural prairie, open farmland and oak woodlands; birds and wildlife are abundant. For those interested in geocaching, over a hundred challenge caches are set on the trail.

The southern endpoint of the trail is in Valparaiso, with trailhead parking at the intersection of State Route 79 and W. 3rd Street. At the midpoint in Loma, park at the lot off County Road W in the center of town. At the trail's northern endpoint in Brainard, park in the small lot at the intersection of County Road 30 and S. Lincoln Street. The only facilities on the trail are in these three locations, so carry plenty of water with you!
