In front of the protestant church Lutherkirche in Konstanz, Germany, Baden-Württemberg is an old bell on a permanent display.
The bell is called 'Freiheitsglocke' (Freedom Bell). It is one of three bells which had been donated by Friedrich I Duke of Baden.
Because of static reasons this bell was put down in the 1950s. The other two are still up at the tower.
The bell can be visited all the time without any restrictions. It is used as a memorial for freedom.
Text on bell:
'Freiheit
Aus Baden dran der Freiheitsruf,
der deutsche Einheit uns erschuf.
er klinge fort nach süd und nord,
seid einig, seid der Freiheit Hort.'
(Freedom
From Baden the call to freedom,
German unity created us.
It continues to sound south and north,
be united, be the freedom hoard.)
