In doing research for the weathervane currently sitting on top of the Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, PA, I discovered that the original weathervane was of a horse named Lucy, honored by Henry Chapman Mercer, the owner of Fonthill. Built between 1908 -1912, Lucy assisted in the heavy concrete construction and Mr. Mercer remembered her hard work. There is no mention of when Lucy was removed and this weathervane of a crouching human figure working on something, perhaps a fire, was placed.
