On the southeast corner of 5th and S. Main, just north of 501 S. Main, this fire engine stands on a grassy area. There is no signage or indication of its year. The emblem on the front shows that it is an American LaFrance Foamite fire engine, and we guess perhaps a late 1940's model. Advertising stickers for Larry Gosney State Farm Insurance are on the vehicle which may relate to its ownership.
The American LaFrance Manufacturing Co. began in 1873 and manufactured hand- and horse-drawn fire fighting equipment. The American LaFrance Fire Engine Co. began in 1903 and the first motorized engine came out in 1907. Over the years, the company was purchased by several owners, and eventually closed its doors in 2014.
