[FR] En mai 1694, Vauban inspecte les côtes nord de Bretagne et propose l’édification d’une tour pour avertir des attaques de la flotte anglaise. À cette époque, le commissaire général des fortifications de Louis XIV a déjà fait construire plusieurs phares (le phare du Stiff à Ouessant, le phare des Baleines sur l’île de Ré, le phare de Chassiron à Oléron).
C’est une tour ronde avec un escalier à vis, trois étages, dont le second pour servir de corps de garde en temps de guerre et le troisième pour le gardien chargé d’entretenir le feu.
[EN] In May, 1694, Vauban inspected the northern coast of Brittany and proposed the construction of a tower to warn of attacks of the English fleet. By this time, Louis XIV's commissioner general of fortifications had already had several lighthouses built (the Stiff lighthouse at Ouessant, The Baleines lighthouse on the island of Ré, The Chassiron lighthouse at Oléron).
It is made up of a round tower with a spiral staircase, three floors above the ground floor, of which the second served as the guard house during times of war and the third for the gardian who was tasked with maintaining the light.
