Originally the Arch was built to remember the locals who went to 'the Great War' - World War One. It was built from a design by J.D. Lyons of Prospect. It was dedicated on 21st November, 1926. A photo of the unveiling of the original Arch, in 1926 can be seen at 'the Rambling Wombats' blog site: (

After it was damaged in a storm on 26th May, 1963 it was replaced with the current design, and dedicated on 19th April 1964; on the 49th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli. It has two large bronze tablets listing the locals who served in World War One, with a small one for a Rodney Chapman, who died in Vietnam on active service.
