THE SOUL AND CENTER OF ACTION IN THE COMMUNITY WAS, AND STILL IS,
ITS CHURCHES AND THEIR MINISTRY. THOSE WHO SERVED INCLUDE:

REV CHARLES WILLIAMS JR. CAME TO MOUNT DORA FROM PHILADELPHIA IN
THE 1930’S. AS RACIAL INJUSTICE ISSUES MOUNTED IN THE LAKE COUNTY AREA IN
THE LATE 1940’S , HE WAS CHOSEN AS A SPOKESPERSON FOR A DELEGATION OF
MINISTERS WHO BROUGHT THEIR CONCERNS BEFORE THE MOUNT DORA CITY COUNCIL.
FOR MANY YEARS,HE AND HIS WIFE, ESSIE, OPENED THEIR HOME LIBRARY TO
CHILDREN OF THE COMMUNITY, AS MOUNT DORA’S PUBLIC WOULD NOT SERVE
AFRICAN-AMERICAN CITIZENS.

REV. PRIEST SUMMER BEGAN PASTORING IN MOUNT DORA IN 1949 WITH TENT
MEETINGS AND LATER BUILT THE TRIUMPH OF THE BROTHERHOOD HOLINESS CHURCH.
ONE SUNDAY IN 1952 IN GEORGIA HE WAS THREATENED, BUT PREACHED ANYWAY.
HIS TOPIC: “A BLACK MAN WILL ONE DAY BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES”.
