DESPITE THE BARRIERS OF RACIAL INTOLERANCE, THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF CIVIC LEADERSHIP WERE EARNED BY A NUMBER OF COMMUNITY RESIDENTS. CAULY LOTT, FAYE HILL BROOKS, AND NATHANIEL BELL SERVED ON THE MOUNT DORA CITY COUNCIL IN THE 1970’S AND 1980’S. LAVOND CLAYTON BECAME A STRONG SPOKESPERSON FOR CIVIL RIGHTS AND LED THE FIGHT TO DESEGREGATE THE CEMETERY. DAZELL TERELL IS WARMLY REMEMBERED FOR HER OUTSTANDING FUND-RAISING SKILLS AND COMMITMENT TO YOUTH BETTERMENT.
