Wetaskiwin is primarily a farming community with an approximate population of 12,655 residents.
One note of interest: Wetaskiwin is home to the oldest working municipal water tower in Canada, built in 1907. The city wanted to tear it down, however concerned citizens made it possible for its complete restoration in 2006. It stands 45.72 meters tall (150 ft.) and can be seen throughout town.
