Depuis mars 2015, cette sculpture monumentale a investi la Citadelle et surplombe la ville de Namur. Elle attire tous les regards, invite à la promenade, rassemble passants et touristes, prend la pose pour des séances photos qui se prolongent sur les réseaux sociaux.
L’œuvre de Jan Fabre, « Searching for Utopia » a été présentée à Namur du 14 mars au 30 août 2015 dans le cadre de l’exposition-phare Facing time Rops/Fabre.
Point d’orgue de ce projet, la sculpture monumentale de Fabre domine la ville depuis la Citadelle de Namur.
Son implantation sur le site est si évidente qu’elle intègre naturellement le paysage urbain.
La « tortue », comme tout le monde l’appelle désormais, est devenue un point de promenade, de rendez-vous et un symbole fort de la ville. Son impact sur le tourisme et l’économie est indéniable.

Jan Fabre, est né le 14 décembre 1958 à Anvers en Belgique, où il vit et travaille, est à la fois un dessinateur, un sculpteur, un chorégraphe et un metteur en scène de théâtre.

Sinds maart 2015 heeft deze monumentale sculptuur de Citadel overgenomen en kijkt uit over de stad Namen. Ze trekt ieders aandacht, nodigt uit om te wandelen, brengt mensen en toeristen bij elkaar, poseert voor fotoshoots die doorgaan via sociale netwerken.
Het werk van Jan Fabre, “Searching for Utopia”, werd van 14 maart tot en met 30 augustus 2015 in Namen gepresenteerd in het kader van de grote tentoonstelling Facing time Rops/Fabre.
Fabres monumentale sculptuur, het hoogtepunt van dit project, domineert de stad vanaf de Citadel van Namen.
De lokatie op de site is zo evident dat het op een natuurlijke manier het stedelijke landschap integreert.
De "schildpad", zoals iedereen het nu noemt, is een trefpunt, een ontmoetingspunt en een krachtig symbool van de stad geworden. Het heeft een duidelijk effect op het toerisme en de economie.
De tentoonstelling eindigde op 30 augustus 2015, maar de "schildpad" maakt nu deel uit van het landschap van Namen.
