The vehicle has started its career as a military vehicle. It was put on duty there on 1. April 1957 (i.e. it is one of the first vehicles of the Bundeswehr). It was based at the Engineer-Bataillon 717 in Koblenz. After its time at the armee in the year 1971 it was bought by the fire fighters of Hainau. It was converted into a fire-fighting-vehicle by the company Meßner. It was on duty there until August 2012. After 41 years it was renewed placed on display two years later.
The car is based on a Borgward 2000, a leightweight truck with a maximum weight of 3.5to. Its 2.4litre engine has a performanvce of 85hp, enough for a maximum speed of 85km/h.
