EN Le Fort de France In his 1693 project, Vauban proposes to frame the city with two dretoutes. His assistant, Creuzet de Richeland, built here, according to his own designs, a 25 m square redoubt, surrounded by 7 m shallow, non-floodable ditches. Its walls are very thick: more than 4 m at the base and 2 m at the cord. The redoubt is connected to the village by a communication called double caponier :! these two fortified walls protect the soldiers from enemy fire and allow them to return to the village safely.
It is the responsibility of the inhabitants to house, feed and maintain this troop. The Parliament of Provence compensates them for this charge.

Inside there is a small rectangular courtyard and two courtyards of 20 m² each with a pebble floor from the Verdon. One is used by officers, the other by soldiers.
These two rooms were covered but their roof collapsed one winter under the weight of snow. Surveillance on all four sides is ensured by a round path and two watchtowers placed diagonally.
