The Mogollon Rim, geologically, is the southern edge of the Colorado plateau. It is a forested area and a popular destination for the desert dwellers of the Phoenix area. At 7500 feet the temperature is significantly cooler that that of the desert below.Immediately south of the visitor's center the land drops rapidly down to the 5000 foot level and eventually to the desert floor at 1300 feet.
