Thank heavens for digital cameras, to me, they were one of the greatest inventions ever! I have always loved to take photos but am not really that good at it and when we had to use cameras which had film, I couldn't afford to have all of my mistakes developed into photos. In the 1990s, genealogy was, and still is, one of my passions. One day, I entered a contest on a genealogy website to win a digital camera and for the first time in my life, I actually won a prize. I received a digital camera and that began my new obsession, snapping pictures of everything and anything...because I COULD!

Moving on to the early 2000s, I decided that I had to find a use for all of the pictures I was taking. I wasn't printing all of them because that would cost a fortune so they were basically going to waste. Then I discovered scrapbooking and I spent hours and hours and hours and lots of dollars to create pretty backgrounds for my favorite pictures. But I soon realized that no one would ever care about these scrapbooks but me so I felt that what I was doing was a waste of time and money.

Then in 2003, we had a visit from my step daughter, a single mother of three, who had discovered letterboxing as an inexpensive and educational hobby that she could participate in with her boys. I decided to check it out and was astounded to find that the nearby river trail where I walked my sweet little dog, Barney, hid one of these little treasures. So I quickly took a walk and found the letterbox and that was the beginning of my new obsession. A couple of years later, I started blogging about my adventures so that I would remember them and in case anyone in the future would want to just look at what I did with my life.

Fast forward 15 years, two grandchildren, becoming a retiree, and hating the heat of summer, and I knew I needed to find something to keep my busy during the hot months. I have to drive for hours to find letterboxes now since I have found all that are within an hour of me. So, all the driving and the sweaty hikes pushed me to find a new hobby. I remembered a little website, Waymarking, that I had signed up for years ago and went to take a look at it. Hmmm, it seemed to fit the bill to keep me occupied, give me time outdoors without having to do so many sweaty hikes, and give me a tour of my own town. I was immediately in love with everything that it offered me. And since I always have my camera with me, it really was a perfect fit. I had been erratically blogging my letterboxing adventures throughout the years and I have now decided to add Waymarking adventures to the same blog.

What could be better, taking tons of photos of interesting places which I discover through Waymarking and adding some of them to a blog for posterity. Perfect match for me!

The coordinates that I chose was the nearby river trail where I use to walk my sweet Barney.
