Old Central was built in 1893-1894 and was the main educational building at this college. It was dedicated on June 15, 1894. The early graduating classes were educated primarily in this building. Today, the building retains its original structure, and is used as the Honors College at Oklahoma State University.
This is a two-story building with a full basement. It is constructed of local red brick and native sandstone. The basement level is sandstone, with 8 feet above ground, and 4 feet beneath ground level. The sills and lintels of all windows are sandstone, as well as the arched entrances. The building is approximately 67 feet square and contains 16 rooms. The windows are one-over-one double hung, with transoms on the first floor and arches above on the second floor. The roof has large gables on all sides. A beautiful green shingled belfry bell tower rises above the roof on the south side.
The main entrances faces south and consists of a recessed entry with wood door accessed through an arched opening. There is an additional entrance on the northwest corner for the first floor. Recently, the building underwent a complete restoration. Historical Engineers were used to assure that all work was completed to original specifications, to keep the building historical accurate. The building was placed on the National Register in 1971, and is a contributing property to the OSU Campus Historic District.
